#UTEdChat Questions for 10/11 – #Innovation in Education

Q1: What’s a problem that you’ve solved as an educator? It could be a behavior issue, class problem, building-wide solution, etc. 

Q2: What is your biggest daily challenge in your classroom or in your current role as an educator?

Q3: Braindump! List all the possible solutions to this problem. Take as many tweets as you need. Try and name at least six!

Q4: Of the solutions you’ve come up with, which would you be most excited to launch tomorrow? How could you make that possible?

Dani Sloan is a technology specialist with an expertise in using social media in the classroom. She is a technical trainer for the Utah Education Network, an Instructor at the University of Utah teaching technology integration in classrooms to pre-service teachers, and President of the Utah Coalition for Educational Technology

Dani is enthusiastic about promoting innovation in classrooms, makerspaces, elegant use of social media, and teachers being in control of their own PR. She likes to spend time with her family and friends, read, listen to podcasts, and watch shamelessly bad television. She is married to a rockstar high school teacher, has a preschooler, and two (useless, but lovable) dachshunds.

Devon Cantwell is a PhD student at the University of Utah in the Department of Political Science. At the University of Utah, she’s a resident of Lassonde Studios, which is a living-incubator community for innovation. She has chosen to live at Lassonde to continue to connect the world of education to cutting-edge ed-tech developments as well as develop programming for educators to build their skills in innovation. 

Devon has worked in the field of education for the past five years as an educational technology specialist, math teacher, computer science teacher, and computer science curriculum writer. In her spare time, Devon founded and run two non-profit organizations– Birmingham to Beijing and Jackson Kids Code. In 2016, Devon became an alumna of the 4.0 School Essentials program, which focuses on educational social entrepreneurship. She was also a 2014 Teach for America Social Innovation Fellow where she learned about the IDEO design process and began to integrate those into her non-profit and education work.
