Follow up the UCET love at ISTE

We're all so excited for UCET this week.  It will be great to learn new things, connect with old friends, and share in our Utah community.  Some of you may be wondering how you can expand your PLN beyond Utah and learn from even more amazing educators.  In a word – ISTE.  The International Society for Technology in Education conference in June is a fantastic way to continue the conversations started at UCET.  This year's conference is being held from June 26 – 29 in San Antonio, Texas.  It will bring together educators from around the world, all with the purpose to help students learn and grow through technology integration.  I hope you'll consider attending ISTE, it's been a huge part of my professional learning and I know it can make a difference for you too.

Learning in the New Year

This year I've been participating in the Certified Educational Technology Leader program from CoSN.  The program has been helpful to see the latest trends in edcuation.  It's been useful to learn from many of my collegaues across Utah.  One of my favorite learning moments was a talk by Randy Nelson from Pixar.  He shares some incredible insights on collaboration and communication in the work place.  Really opened my eyes to our role as teachers.  Check it out:

Looking for some Classroom Cash?

If you're looking to fund a technology project from your classroom check out this announcment from GoFundMe:

Back-to-school GoFundMe promotion gives every classroom a $50 bonus

In addition to the tissues and graphing calculators on most school supplies lists, teachers might consider something new — a small cash donation. For its relatively-new back-to-school promotion, crowdfund site GoFundMe is gifting a $50 donation to classrooms that raise at least $250 from five different donors.

The campaign that raises the most money will also win a $10,000 prize for their school.

To be eligible for the $50 donation, classrooms must create their campaign using this link between Aug. 17 and Sept 16 (and with the hashtag #GFMtoSchool embedded in the description). Additional details are available on the contest page.

The company’s last promotion, in celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week, gave more than $1 million to teachers through $100 donations.

Ignite! your Passion with UCET

We often hear that we need to find our passion in education, that one thing that helps you get out of bed each morning excited to head off to school for another day.  For some that can pose quite the challenge.  For others, they seem to find their purpose in even the most trivial of tasks.  At UCET 2016, we asked 18 educators, students, and administrators to share one of their educational causes – in 5 minutes or less.  They were up to the challenge!  The Ignite! sessions proved to be some of the best of conference and we want to share them with you!  Below you'll find a playlist with all 18 videos – what a great way to ignite your passion this week!

GoFundMe for Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher Appreciation Week has arrived, and here at GoFundMe we want to celebrate it with a big splash. Educators give so much to our communities, and we’re teaming up with the National PTA to give back.

If you start a campaign to benefit a teacher or a classroom this week, GoFundMe will chip in a $100 donation* to help you build momentum.

Maybe you’re a teacher, dipping into your own pocket to buy school supplies. Maybe you’re a student or a parent of a student whose life has been touched by an inspirational teacher.

No matter who you are, you can have a huge impact with a GoFundMe campaign. Let’s #ThankATeacher together and make giving easy and contagious.
