Mary Touchet currently teaches Secondary Math at Academy for Math, Engineering & Science (AMES) in Salt Lake City.  She has lived in a few different places, including, California, Brazil, Texas and different counties in Utah (Salt Lake, Davis, Tooele, Provo and Sevier). 

Mary earned a bachelor’s degree in Math Education and then completed a master’s in Math Education, all while raising 3 beautiful children with her husband.  She has learned to use change to help her become a better teacher by using the best-researched methods in learning and teaching.  Mary’s research interests include how math teachers use problem-solving tasks in the classroom to promote mathematical discussions, teaching students how to think about how they are using the Standards of Mathematical Practice in their studies, and helping others to learn to how to foster a mathematical growth mindset.  

Mary is also the Twitter representative for Utah Council Teachers of Mathematics (UCTM) and moderates a monthly Math Education Twitter Chat on the 3rd Thursday of every month, #UTmathChat. 

When she’s not teaching or learning math, Mary enjoys activities with her family, playing and singing music, reading, puzzles, anything techy and playing sports (especially softball and basketball).  She is a life-long learner and enjoys trying new things to challenge herself.
